Six years ago, we saw Robbie Lawler at his most ruthless in this classic.

There is a reason why we call him ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler. This month we look back at this showstopper from July 2014, a fight that would provide the next title contender for the then Welterweight champion, Johnny Hendricks. This fight was made for the cage, and early on Robbie Lawler showed his confidence and experience of championship fights. Lawler tagged Brown a handful of times in the first few minutes but with a title shot on the line for the victor, there was no way Matt Brown would go down without a fight. And indeed, Brown hit back with a sequence of bombs, all greeted with a broad smile from Lawler. An array of technical striking mixed with experienced work in the clinch wasn't enough to get Matt Brown the victory. Robbie Lawler was just too clinical with his exchanges and came out with a unanimous decision victory, a tidy fight bonus and a shot at the title which he went on to win later in the year.
