May 14, 2016 and the indomitable Stipe Miocic makes his first indelible mark on the UFC's heavyweight division

Stipe Miocic regained the UFC heavyweight title with an impressive knockout win over Daniel Cormier at UFC 241. In recognition of this, we flashback to May 14, 2016 when Stipe picked up his first title in emphatic fashion, needing only one round to KO Fabricio Werdum at UFC 198. The odds appeared stacked against Miocic heading into his shot at the title, not only in facing a man who had looked almost invincible and who had not lost a fight since 2011, but also in taking the contest in his opponent’s native land of Brazil. Stipe then went on to defend the title a record-breaking three times against tough competition in Alistair Overeem, Junior Dos Santos and heavy hitter, Francis Ngannou. Having avenged his loss to Cormier, we look forward to seeing what the future holds for one of the UFC’s all-time great heavyweight competitors.
